BIOFerm

Plants for biogas from dry waste, for the anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste with a high impurity content.

Energy from municipal solid waste

In the case of OFMSW with a high impurity content, as sometimes happens when the waste is collected from rubbish bins, or with a very high dry matter content, as in the case of the simultaneous collection of large quantities of branches and residues of the management of green spaces, the continuous flow technology used in the EUCO® Titan OFMSW and EUCOmpact OFMSW plants is not the best solution.

What is needed are plants with resistance to such, potentially damaging, materials: this is where plants that use the BIOFerm technology come in.

No particular pre-treatments are required: the waste is stored in fermenters that are accessible by vehicles, in which the biomass is digested without oxygen. At the end of the process, the fermenter is emptied and then refilled with fresh waste. This is a way of ensuring that the possible presence of foreign materials will not cause any problems.

Except for the fermenter filling and emptying procedures, the plant is fully automated. The biogas produced may be used for the generation of electricity and for upgrading to biomethane.

The benefits at a glance

  • Digestion of waste with a high impurity content
  • Digestion of waste with a high content of woody material
  • Reduced downtime, thanks to fermenters working simultaneously
  • High level of automation/li>
  • Reduced need for personnel
  • Reduced maintenance costs
